Day 26, 27 – With determination, we conquered Wu Dang Mountain

Day 26
On the first day of the trip, we were all gathered at the side gate of the school at 6.45 am getting prepared for our 5 hours ride to Wu Dang. Since it was early in the morning, most of us fell asleep for the first half of the journey, but the tour guide was really nice, she knew that most of us would be bored by the second half of the trip and so she played Home Alone 2 for us during the second half of the trip down to Wu Dang.

When we have reached Wu Dang, it was already time for lunch. We were brought to a restaurant where we had a filling meal. The dishes were mainly vegetables and the fried rice which we had was really delicious. After having our meals, we are finally starting on our first day trip in the Wu Dang Mountain.

Before we set off for our trip

We were brought to take the Huan Bao Che (Environmental friendly vehicle) in Wu Dang Mountain, we had a total of 3 destination to tour around and they are Tai Zi Po, Zi Xiao Dian and lastly, Tian Yi hu. While we were taking the Huan Bao Che around the mountain road, it reminded me of the show Initial D where the road was really curvy and we were like drifting along the road, but the ride itself was really fun as we could hardly find such road in Singapore.

When we arrived at our first destination, Tai Zi Po where we had to walk a long way up to the temple before we could see how beautiful the temple was. At Tai Zi Po itself, they had this place where they offered us all the different variety of tea for us to try.

Our second destination, Zi Xiao Dian. When we were there, we saw many Caucasians learning Chinese Martial Arts from the Shi Fu there. They were all dressed up in their proper attire and were really focused in the practice. This is a place where you could see the different people mixing together to learn the Chinese culture.

Our Last destination, Tian Yi Hu. This is a place where we could see many trees tie up with red cloth all over it, it could also be known as the wishing tree. Over here at Tian YI Hu, it was like a place where you can do all your wishes. They had many things for you over there, they had this drum thing whereby so long as u could throw a coin and it hit the drum, your wishes would be able to come true. They also had this Xiang Lu which was place out of the building, if one could throw a coin into it, you could make a wish and it might come true.

After all of the visits, we had a 1 hour ride down to where we were from the Tian Yi Hu. The ride down in the Huan Bao Che was a tough one for me as the driver was driving really fast and the road was really curvy and so in the end I suffered from motion sickness, but thankfully it didn’t really affected me for the rest of the journey back to the hotel.

Day 27
On the Second day of our trip, we were given a morning call at around 6am whereby we were asked to have our breakfast at 6.30am before we set off to the Jin Ding which was the top of the Wu Dang Mountain. When we reached the foot of the mountain, it was really misty and it started to drizzle, but that didn’t stop us from conquering the Wu Dang Mountain.

When we were climbing up the mountain, we had to give each other motivation especially when we saw the flights of stairs which seem to be never ending. It was during half of our journey when we met with this granny who was carrying 2 bags of stuff climbing up those flights of stairs. Yu Chuan lends a helping hand by carrying her bags and helping her up all the way to the top of the mountain while the rest of us stayed beside him just in case he needs help. It was getting colder as we climbed higher up the mountain, and the rain was getting even stronger and so we had to stop to take a break while Yu Chuan bought a rain coat for the granny. We continued with our journey up the mountain, and finally after an hour or so we have reached the top of the mountain, Jin Ding. When we were there, it was really cold most of us were trembling especially when we climbed all the way up to the top of Jin Ding. But it was all worthwhile when you are able to see the magnificent view from the top of Jin ding.

After some rest, we decided to head back to the foot of the mountain where all of us would gathered before we headed for our lunch, it took us around 5 hours or so to climb up and down Wu Dang Mountain. But I am glad that everyone in MDE made it to the top! I guess this was the first time where everybody made it to the top ^^
After our lunch, we took a 1 hour ride back down to the area we were and from there we took another 5 to 6 hours bus ride back to Wuhan. When we got back to our hostel it was already 9 plus 10 pm and so we had Macdonald as our dinner.

Reflections:

During this Wudang Trip, I realize how determined a person could get just to pray for the safety of a family.

When we were climbing up the mountain, we saw many elderly, trying to climb all the way up to the top of Jin Ding so that they could pray for their family, many of them brought along their own joss stick as the joss stick there was pretty expensive. Even though they have Sedan chairs over there, it was pretty expensive for them.

Talking about the Sedan chair, you should see how they actually carry the people up the mountain, it was really tough especially with when you see those long flights of stairs and it adds on when the weather is freezing cold. Those men who were carrying the Sedan chair age ranges from 30 plus to 50 plus years old, but they were really strong. It was kind of sad when you think of it, they are about the same age as your parents but over here they are doing such tough jobs with such a low income.

With determination, we conquered.
