Our lunch today was Zha Jiang Mian again, but this time we ordered extra food, we ordered Xiao Mian Wo which looks like a shape of a fried donut, it has little vege in it and that it was mostly made of flour. While we were on the way back to class we saw people selling Bing Tang Hu Lu and so we bought it and gave it a try. It taste sweet and sour, sweet because of the melted sugar coated on the outside, sour because of the fruit which is in the inside.

Randomly: A yougurt which i found pretty interesting, the prints were multi religious
After our lesson ended today, around 5 of us headed to the salon at Duo Luo Jie to do our hair treatment. We heard from our other friends that the treatment was really cheap, it only cost 98rmb(near to $20) and that the effect was really good. And so we all decided to give it a try, when we first enter the salon we were all brought to the second level where we got our hair washed and dry.
Washing in progress
At first I only wanted to do the hair treatment but after around 5 minutes of introduction of hair colour and stuff by the hair stylist, I decided to dye my hair (: It was quite a impromptu kind of decision and so I actually got Jiali to help me with the selection of colour. In fact, I found it quite difficult to communicate with the stylist there with my Chinese, it might be because they were speaking really fast and some were speaking in their dialect, but thankfully jiali understood most of them and translated for us.
Treatment (ps: i look like the Bao Zhu Po in the movie Kungfu LOL !)
Yap, that's my dye colour
During the treatment, the stylist were really friendly, they were also quite curious about where we were from and so we told them that we were from Singapore. And once they know that we were from Singapore, they started asking if we were part of China and they started asking many things about Singapore. I was quite proud of myself about how much I could introduce about Singapore to them, I told them about us being multi religious, our culture, our food and our living standards. I remembered that there was one hair stylist who asked me how much does it cost to do a hair treatment in Singapore, and so I told him it was about 500 plus rmb($100 plus) and he was pretty shock and the next second he told me to bring him over to Singapore to be a hair stylist. Haha.
He was my hair stylist
It took me around 1 hour plus to get my hair done, which include washing, drying, hair treatment and dyeing. And now my hair is finally done! It cost me around 268rmb ($54) which is REALLY CHEAP, I was even given another free hair treatment!
DONE! ^^
US
After so, 13 of us headed to Kuai Le Chu Fang for dinner, this is the first time we had so many people together with us on the same table, it felt kind of cosy though. Anyway after dinner we intended to go to the night market but it was kind of far from our hostel and so we decided to call off the idea. But since most of us doesn’t feel like going back to the hostel so early, we walked around the school and had a small chit chat aka htht(heart to heart talk) session at the badminton court below our hostel.
Reflection:
When I was at the hair salon today, I realized that there were many differences between the hair salon here in China and the ones in Singapore.
Firstly, over here in China, they called their hair stylist by numbers, each hair stylist were given a number and whenever anyone need assistant they would just called out the hair stylist number. But over in Singapore, we doesn’t do that, we usually called the hair stylist by their names. And so when I first hear them call their colleague by the numbers I was pretty shock and I found it weird, however after around 20 minutes in the salon I kind of got used to it already.
Secondly, over here in China, there equipment is kind of limited as compared to Singapore. Over here, each stylist only has a pair of scissors and a comb each to themselves. And so they are not able to share them around with the others. Also they have limited hair clips and that means they would try really hard to clip all your hair together just with a clip.
Thirdly, over here in China, the seats given to us will not be reserved for you, by that I mean once u get off your seat to have your hair wash, the next moment when you return to your seats it would have been taken by another customer and you would have to move to another empty seat which is available. And so, the hair stylist here does thing really fast, they are able to attend to you and get the job done as quickly as possible, but over in Singapore, most probably you would have to wait for a very very long time before your hair treatment and other stuff is done.
Lastly, the way they charge over here is also different. For example, if you choose to dye your hair dark brown, they would ask you what type of dye would you like to use, the difference in the price gives you a difference in the dye quality. That just means that if you were to pay 100rmb you would get a not so good dye, but if you were to pay 199rmb you would get a better quality dye.
a new experience everyday
